Stephen Bithell is a Weymouth-based artist, who since completing his formal training at Shelley Park, Boscombe in the 1980s has followed a varied path, painting the British landscape and coast, with all its moods from foreboding to tranquil. Stephen’s paintings are held by private collections both in the UK and internationally.

More recently Stephen has reduced the size of his boards, equipment and palette, enabling him to be more spontaneous and mobile whilst out painting, and his work is most often created in plein air.

Stephen tends to work in series, and we are currently delighted to be showing his fascinating series of small paintings about Weymouth, “The Views People Don’t See”.

During the Covid lock down Stephen has painted almost 300 postcards for people living alone, couples self-isolating, and front-line key workers.
