In what seemed like no more than a blink of an eye, Weymouth’s most prominent modernist building was unceremoniously pulled down.
Having stood imposingly over the Harbour’s North Quay for more than half a century, the demolition in early 2024 of the former Weymouth Council Building undoubtedly represents a significant moment in one of the town’s most important historic areas.
Fortuitously, artist and lifelong Weymouth resident Stephen Bithell was on the spot to capture the this controversial event in a series of nine real time plein air paintings and five pencil drawings.
Stephen will be presenting this new collection at a special Preview Evening and Talk on 6th June 2024 at 6pm. Find our more here
