MSF Charity Raffle - 'A New Day' by Venus Griffiths

On Monday 1st May the raffle draw was made at Cove Gallery in support of the amazing international charity Medecin Sans Frontieres (MSF). Pictured below pulling out the winning ticket is former MSF nurse Anna Kent (now a mid-wife and cardiology nurse at Dorchester hospital), together with south harbourside resident, MSF fundraiser and raffle organiser Jennifer Bayley.

Over £1600 was raised to support MSF’s work at the frontline of conflict and disaster zones around the world.

The lucky winner of the painting (seen on the easel) - ‘A New Day’ by Venus Griffiths - was Richard Calvert from London.

Cove Gallery, in association with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), is supporting a Charity Raffle of a framed original painting donated by renowned Cumbria-based artist Venus Griffiths.

We are proud to be partnering with neighbouring South Harbourside business owner Jennifer Bayley, who has a longstanding connection with MSF as both an active supporter and fundraiser.

'A New Day' is a bright and optimistic floral piece created by the artist especially for MSF. This beautiful 50x50cm framed canvas would normally retail for £800.

Venus Griffiths is an established and successful artist and illustrator based in Keswick in the heart of the Lake District, working in acrylic paint, watercolours and mono screen prints.

A regular exhibitor at galleries in the Lake District and across the UK, Venus is also a frequent contributor of artwork to charitable organisations, and for the last 18 years has donated an original painting for auction to raise funds for Keswick Mountain Rescue.

Venus says: "I know Jennifer as a regular visitor to the Lake District and was delighted to be able to donate this painting to raise funds for MSF, which does such important work providing medical support for communities across the world".

Jennifer, a Weymouth business owner who has been selling ice cream and gifts from her shopfront on Trinity Road for many years, is a tireless fundraiser for MSF. She says "MSF is such an important organisation, providing vital emergency assistance around the world in areas affected by armed conflict, epidemics, and disasters. I have done many activities to raise funds for MSF, and this year I thought it might be an idea to do something different and more ambitious".

When Cove Gallery owners and close neighbours Paul and Geraldine heard about Jennifer's idea for an art raffle, they were only too keen to offer their support. Paul says: "We are extremely proud to be involved in raising funds for MSF, which is doing such critical work around the world at this precarious time for humanity. Partnering with Jennifer highlights the spirit of collaboration that exists among harbourside businesses, and its also great to be able to show how art can act as a real force for good".

The raffle will be drawn on Monday 3rd May 2021. Tickets are available from Cove Gallery, Weymouth, or can be bought online directly from the Cove Gallery website.
